Meet Mary Damkroger, PhD

Mary Damkroger, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist and has extensive experience working with people who are hurting for nearly 35 years. Dr. Mary was an honors graduate of Florida Southern College and received her master’s degree at Southern Methodist University and her doctorate at the University of North Texas. Prior to going into private practice, she had an active counseling career at the Minirth-Meier /New Life Clinics. This premier Clinic was the first to integrate psychology/psychiatry and Christianity and has helped millions of people in clinics all over the United States. In 2008, Dr. Mary went into private practice and currently offices with a group of like-minded counselors in West Plano. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the American Association of Christian Counselors. Dr. Mary grew up in Florida and has lived in the Dallas area since 1987 with her husband and family.

Dr. Mary works with adults in individual, couple and group settings. Her goal is to provide a confidential and safe environment where clients can find help and healing. She utilizes a variety of therapy methods, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical and Behavioral Therapy (DBT- which is composed of 4 parts: interpersonal communication effectiveness, emotional regulation skills, mindfulness skills, and distress tolerance skills), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), as well as a variety of trauma therapies (EMDR, PIT, IFS, etc.). She is also trained in many couple/marital therapies.

After several meeting to achieve a thorough evaluation of each client, Dr. Mary decides on a treatment plan and incorporates the therapies needed to bring about success. Her therapeutic style is very relational.  Many describe her as open, genuine and non-shaming. She strives to be compassionate, encouraging, and also challenging.
