Meet Mary Damkroger, PhD

Mary Damkroger, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist and has extensive experience working with people who are hurting for over 25 years. Mary was an honors graduate of Florida Southern College and received her masters at Southern Methodist University and her doctorate at the University of North Texas. Prior to going into private practice, she had an active counseling practice at the Meier Clinics (formerly Minirth-Meier New Life Clinics) for over 20 years. This premier Clinic was the first to integrate psychology/psychiatry into Christianity and has helped millions of people throughout the United States because of the founders’ forward looking philosophy. Mary went into private practice in 2008 and currently offices in Plano in the the Willow Bend Park building. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the American Association of Christian Counselors. Mary lives in Richardson, Texas with her husband and has two sons, one in college and one graduated and starting his career.

Mary works with adults and older adolescents in individual, couple, family and group settings. Her goal is to provide a confidential and safe environment where clients can be understood and find help and healing. She utilizes an eclectic form of therapies, including cognitive behavioral, conflict resolution, relaxation and stress reduction, interpersonal communication, understanding and regulating emotions, healing past trauma, family systems, exposure and response prevention to name a few. She is also EMDR trained. EMDR (Eye-Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and found effective for the treatment of stress and anxiety resulting from trauma – seemingly insignificant to paramount – experienced as an adult or as a child. After a thorough evaluation of each person or family, she decides what approach is best and utilizes any and all needed therapies in order to achieve success. Mary’s style is open, genuine and non-shaming. She strives to be compassionate, comforting, encouraging and challenging.
